Chief executive, NHS Yorkshire and the Humber. NEW ENTRY

Bill McCarthy took over at NHS Yorkshire and the Humber in August 2009, brought in to deliver a 10 year plan to improve health and tackle inequalities. He comes from an interesting background for an SHA chief: an economist by training, his previous post was as chief executive of City of York Council. He is also a former DH director general. Respected for his intellect, he has been linked to a number of top jobs and is likely to find a slot in the new national regime. He could well be running the economic regulator in a year’s time.
