Sian Thomas was appointed director of NHS Employers earlier this year, after 12 months of sharing the role with Alastair Henderson, and has launched the organisation into developing extra services for its members.
She has a background in HR in the NHS and is a director of the NHS Confederation and a member of the Cabinet Office Public Sector Employers Forum. NHS Employers is seen as more influential in pay bargaining than the Department of Health but Ms Thomas faces a tough year as she reconciles her belief in the value of good HR practices with pressure to restrict the NHS wages bill.
