• Haxby Group operates from 11 sites in York and Hull
  • York practice the only GP practice to currently be rated “outstanding” in the city

A GP group in Yorkshire and the Humber has been rated “outstanding” by the Care Quality Commission.

The Haxby Group operates from 11 sites in York and Hull, covering 60,000 patients. The CQC inspected the group’s operation in each city separately in November 2018 – both were rated “outstanding” overall.

In York, the practice was rated “outstanding” for leadership as well as for providing effective and caring services. It is currently the only GP practice to be rated “outstanding” overall in the city.

The Hull service was rated “outstanding” for leadership and for effective services. It is now one of three practices to have an overall “outstanding” rating in Hull.

Haxby Group was praised for building multidisciplinary teams that work with GPs to make sure patients are seen quickly and by the most appropriate practitioner.

Both the York and Hull operations are supported by a shared “business support unit” standardising processes across the group, including ”implementation of cross-city peer review,” which CQC inspector Beverly Cole said she was “encouraged to see”.

She added: “What makes Haxby Group practices ’outstanding’ is their proactive approach to quality and sustainability of primary care. They have introduced new roles, for example paramedics and primary care practitioners, and have established competency frameworks for staff at all levels to ensure that they are well trained and supported.”
