WORKFORCE: Imperial College Healthcare Trust has recruited a new medical director.
Professor Nick Cheshire will replace current medical director Dr David Mitchell at a later date.
Professor Cheshire has been clinical programme director of circulation and renal sciences at the trust for the past four years.
Along with nursing director Janice Sigsworth he will be responsible for safety and quality.
Chief executive Mark Davies has previously ordered an audit into surgeons leaving swabs in patients and there have been a number of clinical ‘never events’.
Commenting on the new appointment Mr Davies said: “Professor Cheshire joins our executive team at a time of great change and I look forward to working together with him, our colleagues and external partners on the major changes and challenges facing us.
“I know Professor Cheshire will be instrumental in forging new relationships and strengthening existing ones with our GPs, clinical commissioning groups, our local councils, patient groups and other stakeholders with an interest in our future success”
The trust has also appointed Professor Sir Anthony Newman Taylor to its board as a non-executive director.
