Four new non-executive directors of the NHS Commissioning Board were confirmed today by the Department of Health.
They are:
- Lord Victor Adebowale, chief executive of the charity Turning Point. He is a cross bench peer, non-executive of the Audit Commission, president of the Community Practitioners and Health Visitors Association and Patron of Social Enterprise UK. Previously a member of the NHS Future Forum.
- Margaret Casely-Hayford, director of legal services and company secretary, John Lewis Partnership PLC and a board member of the British Retail Consortium. She has previously been a trustee and special trustee of Geffrye Museum and of Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.
- Dame Moira Gibb, a civil service commissioner and chief executive of the London Borough of Camden before standing down in December 2011. She is also chair of the Social Work Reform Board on behalf of Department of Education and Department of Health, and a board member of UK Statistics Authority. She has previously been president of the Association of Directors of Social Services and a member of the NHS Future Forum.
- Naguib Kheraj, vice chairman of Barclays Bank PLC, member of the investment committee of the Welcome Trust, board member of trustees of the Aga Khan University and chair of Aga Khan Foundation National Committee.
The announcement indicates the board’s previous plan to appoint a very well-respected doctor to a non-executive position has either been dropped or failed.
The new appointees will join the board’s existing non-executive directors: its chair Malcolm Grant, University College London provost; Ed Smith, chair of the Student Loans Company and former strategy chair of PricewaterhouseCoopers; and Ciarane Devane, chief executive of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Health secretary Andrew Lansley said: “I am delighted to announce these new appointments to the NHS Commissioning Board.”
Professor Grant said: “These are appointments of the highest quality, and they bring to the NHS a wealth of experience and expertise from a wide range of backgrounds. I am pleased that we now have a full group of non-executive directors, with complementary strengths and skills, to work alongside the executive team led by [chief executive] Sir David Nicholson.”
