HSJ’s latest podcast talks to Khalid Shihadah on how he went about a joint mission to reduce non-pay spend in orthopaedics across 70 trusts.

In his recent review of hospital productivity, Lord Carter tasked the NHS with reducing its non-pay costs by at least 10 per cent by April 2018. Orthopaedics is one of the biggest causes of non-pay spend in trusts and so North of England Commercial Procurement Collaborative, NHS London Procurement Partnership, NHS East of England Procurement Hub and NHS Commercial Solutions have teamed up to tackle this problem across 70 different trusts in England.

Khalid Shihadah is senior clinical procurement specialist in Orthopaedics at North of England Commercial Procurement Collaborative and a project lead for Total Orthopaedics Solutions.
