WORKFORCE: The chief executive of NHS Hampshire Debbie Fleming has been appointed as chief executive of the new Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth (SHIP) PCT cluster.

The appointment of finance directors and the remainder of the cluster executive team will follow shortly. However, NHS Isle of Wight chief executive Kevin Flynn will remain accountable officer for the island’s provider arm.

It has been given special permission by the Department of Health to remain part of the PCT while it works towards becoming a community foundation trust in time for the abolition of PCTs in April 2013.

The provider arm provides almost all NHS services on the island, other than those offered by GP surgeries.
