FINANCE: Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust predicted a small year-end deficit of £0.2m last month.
March board papers state that the trust incurred a large under-spend in February, mainly as a result of reversing the accruals for Key Performance Indicator and Commissioning for Quality and Innovation penalties – bringing the cumulative deficit to £0.2m.
Ada Foreman, interim executive director of finance, told the board: “The under-spend on pay that had been experienced in the last few months, except in January, has occurred again in February. This is consistent with the optimistic forecast presented to the board last month.
“Therefore the previous month’s forecast has shifted from £1.8m to £0.2m with one month to go.
“On the assumption that all expected anomalies have been disclosed to the finance department the forecast outturn is expected to be £0.2m deficit.”
