FINANCE: The primary care trust was reporting a surplus of £1.5m at the end of January, and forecasting it would achieve its planned surplus of £1.6m for 2010-11.

The finance report to its 3 March board meeting said it had reached agreement with St Helens and Knowsley Hospitals NHS Trust to cap the amount it would pay the acute trust for over-performance at £1.95m for the year.

It added that over-performance by Alder Hey Children’s Foundation Trust had been mitigated by “effective challenge from commissioners”.

The report stated: “The over-performance at Alder Hey has… been adjusted to reflect actions being taken by the co-ordinating commissioner to mitigate pressure caused by coding/counting changes.”
