FINANCE: Four of the five Lancashire primary care trusts were forecasting year end overspends in excess of £400,000 with the foundation at the end of September, their cluster’s latest finance report shows.

North Lancashire was forecasting the largest 2011-12 overspend, at £1.4m. It was followed by Blackburn with Darwen, at £458,000; Blackpool, at £434,000; and East Lancashire, at £431,000, according to the NHS Lancashire cluster report.

It added: “Central Lancashire PCT has a cost containment contract with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals FT and therefore is not reporting an overspend however Elective Admissions and Planned Same Day activity across Central Lancs is 8 per cent above planned levels, most of which is day case activity.”
