PERFORMANCE: Elective surgery in “many specialties” - including cancer – has been postponed or cancelled in Leeds because of excess demand for services over winter.
Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust has delayed or cancelled operations to cope with the extra demand on the system.
The issue was highlighted by the chief executive of Leeds Community Healthcare Trust, Thea Stein, in papers for the trust’s February board meeting.
She also said: “Leeds Community Healthcare Trust continues to work with partners across the city to respond to urgent winter pressures. The position is reviewed on a daily basis and we monitor the capacity of all of our key services in order to continue to respond. District nursing and integrated care teams have continued to take referrals, despite working above capacity, and all our directly managed beds are open, all of which were full at the time of writing this report.”
