PERFORMANCE: Only 33 out of 50 GP practices have signed up to the NHS Health Checks programme in West Leicester CCG.

By the end of 2011-12, 6,259 eligible people in the West Leicester clinical commissioning group area should have received a health check. But so far this year only 300 have.

At “One Leicester CCG”, take-up needs to improve from 70 per cent to 75 per cent, according to primary care trust board papers.

At East Leicestershire and Rutland CCG, 90 per cent of eligible patients should have had a health check, but only 1.8 per cent had done in quarter one. Only 26 out of 34 practices have signed up.

The PCT says there has been under-reporting. Nine CCGs are proposing a “collective LES (local enhanced service)” which would enable alternative practices to undertake work on behalf of practices not signing up to certain enhanced services.

Communications strategies are also being developed.
