- New chief executive of Whittington Health Trust named as Siobhan Harrington
- Former strategy director replaces Simon Pleydell, who has led the organisation for three years
A London hospital and community trust has today announced the appointment of new chief executive.
Siobhan Harrington will take up her post on 16 September after being the trust’s strategy director for the past three years. It will be Ms Harrington’s first chief executive job, although she has also previously served as deputy chief executive, and was acting chief at the trust for two months in 2011.
The former nurse joined the Whittington as director of primary care in 2006, having previously worked as director of primary care commissioning at Haringey Primary Care Trust. She has also held London wide and Department of Health roles.
She takes over from Simon Pleydell, who led the organisation for three years and was previously chief executive of South Tees Hospitals Foundation Trust. He is taking up a variety of non-executive roles after leaving the north London trusts, and last month HSJ reported he had been asked to lead a troubled sustainability and transformation partnership in Yorkshire.
Whittington Health Trust has a turnover of around £300m and provides district general hospital services plus community services to the London boroughs of Haringey and Islington.
Trust chair Steve Hitchins said: ”It was clear from the excellent participation of colleagues, partners, some patients and the community forum, as well as the final interview panel, that this decision was well supported and unanimous.
“I and the rest of the board are looking forward to working with Siobhan in her new role building on the foundations we have all worked so hard on during Simon’s time at the Whittington. I am really pleased at Siobhan’s appointment.”
