WORKFORCE: Vernon Hull will be standing down as the long standing chair of Medway NHS Foundation Trust at the end of March.

Denise Harker, currently chair of NHS Sussex, will replace him.

Mr Hull was appointed chair of Medway FT in November 2004 and led the trust to become the first foundation trust in Kent.

Ms Harker, a chartered management accountant, became a non-executive director at Maidstone and Tunbridge NHS Trust in 2008. In early 2010 she became chair of NHS Medway.

When the regions primary care trusts clustered, she was asked to chair NHS Sussex, which she did so from February 2011.

She will join the foundation trust’s board of directors officially on 1 April this year.

Ms Harker said: “I am delighted to accept the chairmanship of Medway NHS Foundation Trust.

“Although there are many challenges facing us, I believe the trust has a really exciting future ahead and I look forward to working with the excellent staff involved in delivering the wide range of services across our organisation.”
