WORKFORCE: Kent police have arrested a woman suspected of treating hundreds of patients by posing as a registered nurse without being properly qualified.

The 46-year-old woman from Brecon in Wales was arrested on suspicion of fraud by police investigating her employment at four GP practices in Medway, Kent, from August 2006 to September last year.

NHS Medway and Kent said the woman, who is currently on bail, had a background as a healthcare assistant.

The trust said an investigation had not found any evidence of complaints or problems with her work.

“NHS Kent and Medway carried out an immediate review to check that the standard of care we expect patients to receive has been maintained,” said a statement from the primary care trust cluster.

“Our investigations have not found any problems with the work this person has carried out and there is no reason to believe that there has been any harm to anyone’s health.”

However, officials said they were contacting some patients who received vaccinations and cervical smear tests and inviting them to be seen again as a precautionary measure.
