A foundation trust faces two tribunal battles after the manager overseeing its equality strategy complained of an 18 month race discrimination ordeal.

Equality and diversity manager Jean Adamson told HSJ she learned East London Foundation Trust was planning to dismiss her via a message accidentally left on her answering machine by social inclusion director Tim Bishop.

And a former director has lodged a constructive dismissal claim. Ms Adamson, whose claim is based on race discrimination, unfair selection for redundancy and victimisation, said she was singled out due to her friendship with the director.

At the time of the alleged treatment Ms Adamson was writing the trust’s single equality scheme.

Ms Adamson was made redundant in September. Mr Bishop resigned and left the trust on 27 October, which a trust spokeswoman said was “not related to any incident within the trust”.

The spokeswoman said she could not comment on the case.
