Most mental health trusts are not fully adhering to the smoking ban, nearly a year after it came into effect, according to a survey by the Mental Health Foundation.

A large majority (85 per cent) of respondents to the survey said the ban had been implemented only partially, or not at all. The ban had also highlighted the lack of safe outdoor spaces for patients to smoke.

The charity has called for the Department of Health to carry out a full assessment of the ban’s impact.
