PERFORMANCE: Healthcare acquired infections are causing concern in Merseyside where two trusts in particular are exceeding their targets.

The PCT cluster board heard that Aintree University Hospitals Foundation Trust had had four cases of MRSA up to the end of November, against a year end projection of two, and St Helen’s and Knowsley Hospitals Trust had seven against a projection of three. St Helen’s had implemented a clinical action plans and had discussions with the local area team of the Commissioning Board and the CCG, as well as commissioning an independent review.

The same two trusts had more C Difficile cases than their year end target with Aintree at 46 against 44, and St Helen’s at 24 against 17.
