PERFORMANCE: The trust has already exceeded its target maximum number of MRSA cases for 2012-13, NHS Merseyside’s August performance report shows.

The report states that St Helens and Knowsley “currently stands at five cases of MRSA bacteraemia, thereby exceeding the trust year-end target of three cases”.

It continues: “Formal contractual actions have been set in progress. A strategic review of all cases to date conducted by trust executives and quality leads, representatives from Halton [clinical commissioning group] and NHS Merseyside has demonstrated a number of key concerns which are being addressed and the trust will be closely monitored on measures put in place to prevent further infections.”
