PERFORMANCE: St Helen and Knowsley Hospital Trust had seven cases of C difficile in May against a year-to-date target of three and won’t be back on track until November at the earliest, commissioner board papers show.
A number of infected patients had been managed on the orthopaedics unit but an audit found antibiotic stewardship was “excellent” with high scores for cleanliness and hand hygiene, says the cluster performance report.
“Despite the high scores in prescribing and cleanliness, the trust is continuing to target the orthopaedic unit to ensure that good practice is sustained,” says the report.
The report says the trust won’t be back on track until at least November this year. “This is because an executive decision was taken to retain the higher monthly numbers until the latter part of the year,” it says.
