FINANCE: Mid Essex PCT’s contract with Mid Essex Hospital Services Trust is overspending by £8.6m to date and is forecast to overspend by £9.7m at outturn, according to the primary care trust.

The PCT’s finance report said: “There is over-performance on emergency/non electives, day cases and, to a lesser extent, outpatient activity.

“Emergency admissions are not above 2008-09 levels but the SLA [service line agreement] assumed activity below 2008-09 levels as a result of QIPP [quality, innovation, productivity and prevention] schemes and the drop off in activity in the last quarter of 2009-10.”
