WORKFORCE: Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust has appointed a new chair.

Jules Preston MBE will take up the position from the beginning of October, replacing interim chair David Stone CBE, who was appointed in March 2012.

The trust’s current chief executive is Stephen Eames, who replaced Julia Squires after her resignation in January.

HSJ was told Ms Squire, now at the NHS Confederation, had resigned in December but the trust’s press office denied it.

Mr Preston, who is currently chair of Northumberland Tyne and Wear Foundation Trust, said: “I am looking forward to the new challenge. The success of any organisation is based on its people. With the support of all of those in the Trust and with the goodwill of partners, together we can develop sustainable health services of which we will all be proud.”

Stephen Eames, interim chief executive of the trust, said: “We face some considerable challenges over the next few months as we work to reconfigure services and determine the future direction of the organisation. Jules Preston is a respected chairman of a successful foundation trust and brings a wealth of experience, which will be of enormous benefit to the trust and to our local populations as we move forward.

“The trust and the board are extremely grateful to David Stone for his stewardship of the organisation over the last seven months and we wish him well in the future.”
