STRUCTURE: Two emerging clinical commissioning groups in Milton Keynes - one of which was dominated by doctors with an Asian background - have agreed to merge.

HSJ reported in March how GP Healthcare MK was noticeably, but not exclusively, dominated by doctors with an Asian background.

Its practices were also notably more deprived than those in neighbouring Premier MK, and they historically used much more secondary healthcare. GP Healthcare MK’s practices also performed worse on average in the GP quality and outcomes framework.

The PCT told HSJ a single CCG covering the PCT area - called MK Commissioning - is now being developed.

The co-chairs are Dr Nicola Smith and Dr Darren Moore. The PCT plans to delegate £132m - 52 per cent of the total available budget - to the CCG from April.
