A&E attendances have increased by 4,000 each week compared to last year. To protect elective services against these rising pressures Derby Foundation Trust has developed a 24-bed elective care unit.
Delays in discharging patients efficiently, in one case nine hours, led the trust to rethink its management of overnight-stay patients within elective care. Its redesigned Theatre Transformation Project has seen 2,500 inpatients within six months. And 85 per cent of these patients have been discharged within a day.
You can download the case study of Derby’s transformation project free from our partner site Workcast.
HSJ will be publishing daily free digital downloads of case studies from winning or shortlisted entries to its awards programmes – the largest collection of recent and validated best practice in the NHS.
Available as part of the Value in Healthcare Awards and Congress, these best practice examples of service transformation offer insight into their successes and failures as well as steps that can be taken to replicate them in various organisations.
