PERFORMANCE: Dudley Clinical Commissioning Group has become one of only a small number of CCGs to agree funding for DNA testing of familial hyperlipidaemia, a condition which causes cholesterol levels to be much higher than normal from birth.

The decision brings the CCG into line with National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance in this area. Familial hyperlipidaemia can lead to heart attacks and strokes.

Dr Jonathan Darby, a GP and clinical lead for Dudley CCG, said: “I think this is a great step forward in diagnosing and treating a potentially serious condition, but one that is eminently treatable, so needs to be picked up.”
