A single chief officer has been appointed across neighbouring clinical commissioning groups in West Yorkshire.

Greater Huddersfield CCG’s chief officer Carol McKenna will take on the same role at North Kirklees CCG from Wednesday.

Richard Parry, who was seconded as chief officer to North Kirklees CCG, will return to his post as strategic director for adults and health at Kirklees Council.

In a joint statement today, the CCGs said the appointment had been approved by NHS England.

The organisations insisted it was not a move towards a merger and stressed that both CCGs will remain separate statutory organisations.

The statement added: “Staffing arrangements will be reviewed to ensure that there is appropriate expertise and capacity across the two organisations as a result of this change.”

Greater Huddersfield CCG chair Steve Ollerton said: “The two CCGs have been working together since they were established and already jointly commission a range of services and share a number of staff.

“The appointment of a single chief officer is the next logical step on this journey.”
