The provider arm of NHS Kingston is to become a social enterprise on 1 August after two years of planning.

Permission to create the social enterprise, to be called Your Healthcare, was given on 6 July by NHS London under the transforming community services programme.

A total of 587 NHS staff will transfer to the new organisation but retain their terms and conditions including NHS pensions. These conditions will also be available to staff joining the not for profit organisation in future.

Your Healthcare has also been awarded unconditional registration as a provider of health services by the Care Quality Commission.

NHS Hull became the first primary care trust to complete the transfer of its provider arm into a standalone social enterprise last month. Around 1,200 NHS staff have now formally transferred to the community interest company City Health Care Partnership.

HSJ understands that around 12 per cent of PCT provider arms have opted to become social enterprise schemes under the transforming community services programme.
