PERFORMANCE: Safeguarding experts are investigating why the number of unborn children subject to a child protection plan more than doubled to 65 over one quarter during 2014.
The Gateshead Local Safeguarding Children Board is examining the trend to try to understand how it has occurred.
Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group’s designated nurse for safeguarding children, Margaret Tench, said in governing body papers for a meeting last month: “A similar pattern is emerging in Newcastle. Additional midwifery capacity to accommodate increased workload has been supported by Gateshead CCG. The quality and patient safety team are monitoring this work with an audit analysis to explore the trend further.”
