STRUCTURE: A general practice alliance has been formed covering nearly 80 per cent of practices in Nottingham.

Nottingham City General Practice Alliance comprises of 43 practices covering 312,400 people –  86 per cent of patients – across the area.

The alliance will support shared back office functions.

HSJ understands there are no formal plans for the alliance to provide shared services on behalf of practices.

Dr Jonathan Harte, chair of the alliance, said: “The alliance is well placed to help with provision of services on behalf of practices where that supports member practices who are struggling for capacity to undertake the services themselves. Our current main function isn’t provision of services but developing the voice of local practices and supporting their needs.”
