PERFORMANCE: Norfolk and Norwich UHFT has had to restrict bed capacity due to a norovirus outbreak, according to the local primary care trust.

NHS Norfolk’s performance report to the 30 March board meeting said: “An outbreak of norovirus at the N&N [Norfolk and Norwich] has restricted bed capacity for elective and non-elective care.

“All parts of the system have supported discharge to assist with patient flow, but the high number of beds closed and wards infected has led to sustained pressure over the last two weeks.”

The report adds: “To contain the outbreak patients have been co-horted and restrictions to visits have been advised. The number of DTOCs [delayed transfers of care] has remained very low with average bed delays at 2.35 per day over the last four weeks, well below the target ceiling of eight.”
