FINANCE: The site of a hospital in Ipswich could be sold off to fund mental health developments in the area.

Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust has developed a plan for St Clement’s Hospital in Ipswich, which no longer has inpatients, which would see up to 227 homes built in the grounds, principal hospital buildings converted, new community facilities and a park.

Commercial director Leigh Fleming said: “The move from St Clement’s has been several years in the planning. We no longer have inpatient services on site, having relocated these to a new facility on the Ipswich Hospital site. The sale of St Clement’s will fund this, and other, new mental health developments.”

The hospital is only used by corporate staff so no services will need to be used. However, a standalone low secure unit on part of the site will remain.
