PERFORMANCE: Monitor has appointed an improvement director for Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust, which it placed into special measures last week.
Former NHS trust chief executive Alan Yates will work at the trust in a part-time capacity but will be employed by Monitor.
Mr Yates’ career in the in the NHS spans 27 years, over half of which in mental health trusts. He was previously chief executive of Mersey Care Trust, North Mersey Community Trust and Stockport Healthcare Trust.
Monitor took regulatory action against Norfolk and Suffolk last week, after concerns were raised its leadership, staffing levels and safety of services.
The trust was rated as ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission in an inspection report published earlier this month.
Monitor’s regional director Alexandra Coull said: “This extra support will help Norfolk and Suffolk make the improvements to its services that patients need.”
“Alan has extensive experience of leading NHS organisations and therefore will be able to provide invaluable help and expertise.”
Trust chief executive Michael Scott said: “Having met Alan, I am delighted for him to begin working with us.
“He comes to us with extensive experience of delivering mental health care services and we regard this as a positive step for our trust.
“Alan’s expertise and support will be invaluable in helping us make improvements we want to make.”
