Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust has recorded its first cases of norovirus this year.
Nine patients and two members of staff caught the winter vomiting virus. One ward, made up of four beds, was closed for five days while the virus was contained.
The highly contagious virus can increase pressure on accident and emergency so the trust is running a campaign discouraging anyone in the community who has vomiting or diarrhoea symptoms from visiting the department.
Barking, Havering and Redbridge has recently been struggling to reach the four-hour wait target for A&E.
