COMMERCIAL: A trio of acute trusts have signed an eight-year contract with outsourcing giant Capita and software provider Clinisys to supply laboratory information system for their pathology services.

North Bristol Trust, University Hospitals Bristol Foundation Trust and Weston Area Health Trust signed the £6m deal following a competitive tender process.

Capita will provide the infrastructure for the new service, such as data servers, and software developer Clinisys will supply the applications.

North Bristol Trust’s genetics service, the Bristol Genetics Laboratory, will also benefit from the companies’ information services as part of the deal.

A North Bristol Trust spokesman said it expected to need “fewer staff posts as a result of this contract”.

“The reduction will be handled via ceasing temporary contracts and natural wastage. We hope to avoid redundancies.”
