PERFORMANCE: NHS Camden has missed its target for cervical screening, achieving 66.9 per cent coverage against a national threshold of 80 per cent.

A report to the North Central London primary care trust cluster said: “Camden [had] commenced a programme of visits to GP practices with low coverage rates in June 2012 following appointment of the borough’s screening manager in April.

“The visits aim to ensure that practices have appropriate systems in place for identifying and following up women who have missed their appointments and ensuring that private smear tests are recorded on the national system (Exeter) to count towards coverage.”

It added: “Plans to develop a ‘Welcome to screening’ pack are underway which, following an initial pilot of 3,500 women who have missed their appointment, will be sent to all women with their first screening invite.”
