PERFORMANCE: North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust did not have a single case of hospital-acquired MRSA during the last financial year.
Latest figures show the trust has now been MRSA-free for nearly two years with the last case reported in May 2010.
Managers said these “outstanding” results had been achieved thanks to the hard work and vigilance of all staff at the trusts two hospitals - Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven.
The hospitals’ infection prevention teams have introduced a range of measures across all wards and departments including regular audits, education and training, and hand hygiene measures with all clinical staff now “bare below the elbow”.
