PERFORMANCE: A mental health trust in London has closed down a unit for adolescent patients after a Care Quality Commission inspection.

North East London Foundation Trust closed Brookside Adolescent Unit on Friday after a scheduled visit by the CQC earlier in the week.

The regulator has not taken any formal action while its report is pending, but trusts often take immediate action before a report is issued.

HSJ understands the level of staffing was an issue at the unit and some patients have been transferred to facilities run by East London Foundation Trust.

A spokesman for North East London FT said: “We can confirm that North East London Foundation Trust has taken the decision to temporarily close Brookside Adolescent Unit.

”The care and wellbeing of our young people is paramount to the trust. We have ensured that an extensive care package is in place to support our young people and their families/carers during this time. The unit will definitely reopen.”
