STRUCTURE: The north east has become the first region in England where all of the NHS organisations are foundation trusts, after North East Ambulance Service was authorised by Monitor.

The authorisation brings the total number of foundation trusts to 140, three of which are ambulance trusts.

In a statement NEASFT chief executive Simon Featherstone said: “I believe that as an NHS foundation trust we will be able to work more closely with members of the public in our area, reflecting their needs in the development of our services, ensuring that health care is timely and effective and making a major contribution to the wellbeing of people in our community.”
