COMMERCIAL: North East specialised commissioners have decided to double funding for bariatric surgery.

The decision by North East Specialised Commissioning Group will double the number of procedures funded from 600 to 1,200 under a new contract, according to the Northern Echo.

It means more procedures will be carried out by County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, in addition to the current main centre run by City Hospitals Sunderland Foundation Trust.
