PERFORMANCE: A surge in A&E attendances has seen planned operations cancelled at North Middlesex University Hospitals Trust.

A report to the trust’s board said: “Whilst trust performance against the national four-hour A&E access target improved in May compared with the previous month, it remained below the 95 per cent all types target. The trust will not achieve this target for the first quarter of 2013-14.

“The trust has worked with local commissioners to agree a recovery trajectory in respect of A&E performance and is implementing the supporting action plan.”

It added: “The volume of patients on incomplete pathways continued to rise. This was partly due to elective cancellations caused by a shortage of beds resulting from A&E demand pressures.”
