PERFORMANCE: North Middlesex University Hospital Trust has won an award at the Royal College of Midwives annual award ceremony.

The north London trust won for a project “focused on engaging the hearts and minds of staff and patients in order to provide a better working life and the best experience possible to mothers at every stage of pregnancy and birth”, a trust announcement said.

The engagement drive included introduction of a daily “CARE” rounds by midwives that ask women what they would score their care out of ten and whether they would recommend the service to a friend.

The trust said In July 100 per cent of women asked said that they would recommend the trust’s maternity service to a friend.

Fiona Laird, head of midwifery, said: “We are absolutely delighted to win this national award, which is in recognition of the excellent care that our midwifery and maternity team provide to mothers and families.

“That our peers see us as the best midwifery team in the country is great news for the women of Enfield and Haringey.

“Investment in a new Women’s and Children’s Centre opening in November 2013, to implement local hospital changes outlined in the Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Clinical Strategy, will provide an environment fit for the first rate service we already provide to local women.”
