STRUCTURE: Management consultants are working with clinical commissioning groups in North Tyneside PCT to develop “clear and credible” commissioning plans for 2012-13.
NHS North Tyneside cluster papers say: “CCGs can apply for authorisation by the NHS Commissioning Board from October 2012, and to do so they will need to have demonstrated sufficient leadership of commissioning processes from April 2012.
“Their commissioning plan will form a key part of the authorisation process. Informally known as ‘clear and credible plans’, these commissioning plans will articulate their key strategic priorities for delivery over the next 3-5 years in their respective localities to improve health outcomes for patients, with more detailed commissioning intentions for 2012-13.”
They add: “In September 2011 the SHA [NHS North East] commissioned PricewaterhouseCoopers to work with four pilot CCGs in the north east during October to December to develop their ‘clear and credible’ plans.
“In North of Tyne our two North Tyneside CCGs were selected to work together, and the output from this work is continually shared with the other CCGs across North of Tyne via monthly planning meetings with CCG and PCT commissioning leads.”
The two emerging CCGs in North Tyneside are CareFirst CIC and Engage Health.
