WORKFORCE: Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals Foundation Trust has appointed Robert Hughes as its new chairman.

Mr Hughes will take over from encumbant Nigel Hards. A start date is being finalised.

A trust statement said: “Mr Hughes (56) is a former managing director of Mars Food UK and lives in Pilsgate, near Stamford. He is currently a trustee at Brain Tumour Research and is also involved in the NHS Strategic Review of Children’s Neuro Surgery.

“He is chairman of the charity Anna’s Hope, which he founded with his wife, Carole, following the death of their three year old daughter Anna in 2006 following a brain tumour. The couple also have an older daughter, Sara.”

Trust interim chief executive Peter Reading said: “Rob will be joining us at what is a challenging time for Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals.

“I am looking forward to working with him to ensure we continue to provide the best care for our patients while working more efficiently in order to save costs. On behalf of our staff and the board of directors, I would like to thank Nigel for his unfaltering support, his wisdom, and his constant drive to ensure our patients get the best possible care in our two hospitals.”
