STRUCTURE: Two trusts in North West London have merged to form London North West Healthcare Trust.
The merger between Ealing Hospital Trust and North West London Hospitals Trust has formed an organisation with more than 8000 staff that will cover the communities of Brent, Ealing and Harrow.
HSJ previously reported that local commissioners had concerns over the finances of the merged organisation and doubts over whether it could achieve foundation trust status.
However, despite these concerns the commissioners gave their support to the merger.
Chief executive David McVittie said: “We have huge ambitions for the new trust and for the care it will provide to patients. Working with local GPs and council partners, we will focus on providing services that prevent ill-health and join up care across hospital, community and home. We will be able to create larger clinical teams, ensuring that patients receive the specialist care in the right place and at the right time.
“We will work to build on the leading-edge research and developments already established by the previous Trusts and aspire to excel in teaching and training.
“We are entering an exciting time for London North West Healthcare as we work to shape our new organisation into one that meets the needs of patients in today’s NHS.”
Last month Mr McVittie announced he would be stepping down in March.
Director at the Trust Development Authority, Alwen Williams, said: “This merger is great news for patients in North West London. It puts the local NHS on a much more secure footing and will enable the new Trust to make lasting improvements to patient care.”
