WORKFORCE: Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust has set up schemes to help staff from black and minority ethnics backgrounds to develop leadership skills and encourage them to apply for senior roles.

Thirteen staff will undertake the NHS Leadership Academy’s Edward Jenner programme in the spring.

A BME “leadership community” has already been established at the trust for other BME staff in leadership positions.

Trust head of development Julie Bacon said in a report to the board: “It is intended that our leadership talent map, which will eventually capture performance and information for all leaders within the trust, will also show ethnicity. Therefore, the percentage and distribution of BME leaders will be monitored.”
