PERFORMANCE: Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust missed its in year targets for reducing the first quarter, board papers reveal.
The trust has blamed the breached on “capacity issues” which meant the hospital struggled to isolate patients once they had been diagnosed with C difficile. The trust has also been failing to carry out “deep cleans” of contaminated areas with the hospital.
According to a joint contract and performance monitoring report for NHS Newcastle, NHS North Tyneside and Northumberland Care Trust, the primary care trusts have “raised concerns” of the rise in C difficile rates at the trust.
The papers conclude that the trust is “taking steps to address this by generating more capacity to relocate patients and enable the deep cleans to occur when an infection is identified”.
