WORKFORCE: A GP clinical director has been appointed at Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust to help create seamless pathways for patients moving between hospital and community healthcare services in North Tyneside.
Former GP partner Dr Jane Weatherstone’s plans include developing district nursing services and strengthening links with GPs in North Tyneside, where the trust provides both hospital and community-based services. She will spend part of her time in A&E at North Tyneside General Hospital where she will gain experience of treating patients with non life-threatening illnesses and injuries,
Faced with increasing numbers of A&E attendances, Jane’s support will enable patients with more serious illnesses and injuries to be seen quicker by specialist emergency care consultants.
Jim Mackey, chief executive of the trust, said: “This is the first appointment of its kind and underlines our commitment to deliver the best possible care – regardless whether this is in hospital, in the community or at home.”
Dr Weatherstone will also be involved in post-graduate training for doctors and looking at developing new training schemes in the trust.
