STRUCTURE: The strategic health authority has confirmed it is working on a set of rules for handling the “financial impact” of reconfigurations involving private finance initiative buildings.

The decision follows NHS North West’s approval of Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust’s plan to move out of the Edale unit, a PFI building owned by Central Manchester University Hospitals Foundation Trust.

NHS North West chief executive Mark Ogden reported to the SHA board that work had “taken place to explore solutions in relation to the reuse of the Edale Unit involving Central Manchester University Hospitals, Manchester Mental Health and Social Care NHS Trust and the Greater Manchester PCT cluster”.

He added: “In light of similar concerns arising in the future the SHA has agreed to develop a set of rules around service reconfiguration and the handling of the financial impact. This work is continuing.”
