STRUCTURE: University Hospitals Oxford Trust is planning to spend more than £3m extending its intensive care unit for newborn babies, to provide space for an extra 12 cots.
A business case put before the trust’s board said the plans would provide 16 cot spaces suitable for use as either newborn intensive care or high dependency care. Although some existing space would be lost, the net gain would be 12 spaces, bringing the hospitals capacity to 53 cots.
The total cost of the project is estimated at £3.5m. The trust was allocated £2.8m of capital funding from the South of England strategic health authority cluster.
