STRUCTURE: Oxford University Hospitals Trust is planning to open two operating theatres on its Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre site.

A business case put before the trust’s board recommends refurbishing, relocating and recommissioning the trust’s currently unused Twin Theatre complex.

One of the theatre will replace the capacity currently delivered by the trust’s “mobile” Theatre Seven on the NOC site. The move would bring up the number of theatres at the NOC to eight.

The case lists two “major strategic risks” of not bringing the twin theatres into use.

These are: “Non delivery of access and cancer targets”, and “non delivery of divisional contribution.”

The plans will require capital Investment of £2.8m and revenue investment of £3.1m  including the £350,000 cost of capital.

The funding would be offset by: Re-provision of ‘mobile’ capacity £2.1m, and re-provision of waiting list initiatives’ activity, also totaling £2.1m
